Tyr-phosphorylation in Saccharomyces cerevisiae is essential in controlling the activity of MAP kinase regulating mating, pseudohyphal growth, and cell wall biosynthesis. Yeast serves as a model system for studying the biological function of many protein kinases and PTPs.
