This paper describes the design of novel base-discriminating fluorescent (BDF) nucleobases and their application to single nucleotide polymorphism (SNP) typing. We devised novel BDF nucleosides, (Py)U and (Py)C, which contain a pyrenecarboxamide chromophore connected by a propargyl linker.
