cGMP signaling regulates epithelial fluid transport by Drosophila Malpighian (renal) tubules. In order to directly evaluate the importance of cGMP-degrading phosphodiesterases (PDEs) in epithelial transport, bovine PDE5 (a bona fide cGMP-PDE), was ectopically expressed in vivo.
