To investigate the role of the pathogenic prion protein (PrP(Sc)) in controlling susceptibility to foreign prions, two Syrian hamster (SHa) prion strains, Sc237 and DY, were transmitted to transgenic mice expressing chimeric SHa/mouse PrP genes, Tg(MH2M).
