Several lines of biochemical evidence support a role of alpha2-macroglobulin (A2M) in the pathogenesis of Alzheimer's dementia (AD). A2M participates in the general defence mechanism against proteinases and it is supposed to be involved in the degradation of beta-amyloid peptide (betaAP).
