In renal epithelial cells endocytosis of Na(+),K(+)-ATPase molecules is initiated by phosphorylation of its alpha(1)-subunit, leading to activation of phosphoinositide 3-kinase and adaptor protein-2 (AP-2)/clathrin recruitment.
