Ligand binding to tumor necrosis factor receptor-I (TNFRI) can promote cell survival or activate the apoptotic caspase cascade. Cytoplasmic interaction of TNFRI with TRAF2 and RIP allows for the activation of JNK and NFkappaB pathways.
