The methylenetetrahydrofolate reductase (MTHFR) gene has been recently considered as a candidate gene for Alzheimer's disease (AD). MTHFR is a key enzyme in the metabolism of homocysteine and elevated levels of that amino acid have been associated to Vascular Dementia and AD.
