The structural gene, pkmA, was cloned and sequenced from a rifamycin SV-producing Amycolatopsis mediterranei U32 strain. The N-terminal portion of the deduced amino acid sequence of pkmA showed significant similarity to the family of serine/threonine protein kinases.
