Alcohol drinking as well as cigarette smoking has been associated with development of colorectal polyps, Asians such, as Japanese, Chinese and Korean have high frequency of genetic polymorphism in low Km aldehyde dehydrogenase (ALDH2) gene which greatly regulates alcohol intake.
