Genetically susceptible, TNFRp55 gene-deficient (TNFRp55-/-) mice succumb to infection with Mycobacterium avium. Before their death, M. avium-infected TNFRp55-/- mice develop granulomatous lesions that, in contrast to granulomas in wild-type syngeneic mice, undergo acute disintegration.
