Zebrafish one-eyed pinhead (oep) is essential for embryonic axis and dorsal midline formation by promoting Nodal signalling and is thought to act as a permissive factor. Here we describe that oep elicits profound phenotypic effects when overexpressed in Xenopus and zebrafish.
