Pemphigus vulgaris (PV) is a classical example of an antibody-mediated autoimmune disease of the skin. Direct evidence exists that autoantibodies against the desmosomal adhesion molecule, desmoglein 3 (Dsg3), are critical in the pathogenesis of this disease.
