Saccharomyces cerevisiae is so far the only organism where a knock-out mutant in the gene encoding GTP cyclohydrolase I (FOL2) has been obtained. GTP cyclohydrolase I controls the de novo biosynthetic pathway of tetrahydrobiopterin and folic acid.
