Bardet-Biedl Syndrome (BBS) is a pleiotropic ciliopathy caused by dysfunction of primary cilia. Most BBS patients carry mutations in one of eight genes encoding for subunits of a protein complex, BBSome, which mediates the trafficking of ciliary cargoes.
