<h4>Background</h4> Acute respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS) is associated with high mortality in Intensive Care Units (ICU). A previous genome-wide association study (GWAS) identified the vascular endothelial growth factor receptor 1 ( VEGFR1 ) gene in ARDS risk.
