Ten-eleven translocation (TET) enzymes are critical epigenetic regulators, which oxidize the methylated cytosine nucleobase 5-methyl-dC (5mdC) in the genome to 5-hydroxymethyl-dC (5hmdC) in an α-ketoglutarate-dependent manner.
