<h4>SUMMARY</h4> Class A PBPs (aPBPs) play a key role in the biosynthesis and remodeling of peptidoglycan, the main component of the bacterial cell wall. The human bacterial pathogen Streptococcus pneumoniae produces three aPBPs, which are regulated to maintain the bacterium’s ovoid shape.
