In Neurospora crassa, the met-6+ gene encodes folylpoly-gamma-glutamate synthetase (FPGS) which catalyzes the formation of polyglutamate forms of folate. Methionine auxotrophy of the Neurospora crassa met-6 mutant is related to a lesion affecting this enzyme.
