BACKGROUND: Tumour necrosis factor-alpha (TNF-alpha) is a cytokine that has multiple functions. Through its effects on lipid metabolism, coagulation, insulin resistance and endothelial function, TNF-alpha could be involved in cardiovascular pathophysiology.
