Abstract excerpt
Inclusion body myositis (IBM) is a sporadic progressive myopathy, which is morphologically characterized by inflammatory cell infiltrates and rimmed vacuoles in muscle fibers. Mitochondrial changes are regularly present with ragged-red fibers showing deficiency of cytochrome c oxidase.
