The endoplasmic reticulum-localized transmembrane glycoprotein NSP4 of rotavirus is a key protein involved in rotavirus cytopathology. We have used a dual-recombinant vaccinia virus system to express NSP4 in monkey kidney epithelial cells at a level comparable to that observed during rotavirus infection.
