Sulfate conjugation is an important metabolic pathway for many drugs, xenobiotic compounds, and steroid hormones. Human tissues express five cytoplasmic sulfotransferase (ST) enzymes: estrogen ST (EST), dehydroepiandrosterone (DHEA) ST, and three phenol STs (PSTs).
