Novel ompC(Dex) alleles were utilized to isolate mutants defective in OmpC biogenesis. These ompC(Dex) alleles also conferred sensitivity to sodium dodecyl sulfate (SDS), which permitted the isolation of SDS-resistant and OmpC-specific phage-resistant mutants that remained Dex+.
