Intradermal injection of a cloned bovine leukemia virus (BLV) provirus (pV344) into sheep allowed direct evaluation of intrastrain variability. A sheep was injected with pV344 DNA mixed with DEAE-dextran and became persistently infected with BLV strain 344.
