Malignant hyperthermia (MH) susceptibility remains the commonest cause of death owing to general anaesthesia. In humans, genetically predisposed to MH, anaesthesia can induce skeletal muscle rigidity, hypermetabolism and hyperthermia, which if not immediately reversed can lead to tissue injury and death.
