We have examined the effects of administration of stem cell-factor (SCF) on the number and distribution of pluripotent hematopoietic stem cells (PHSC) in normal mice. Using the competitive repopulation assay we found that in vivo administration of SCF increases the absolute number of PHSC per mouse threefold. The increased numbers of PHSC are found in the peripheral blood and spleen of the SCF-treated animals....
