Haematopoietic stem and progenitor cells (HSPCs) arise from the aorta-gonad-mesonephros and migrate to the caudal haematopoietic tissue (CHT) in zebrafish, where nascent HSPCs undergo tightly controlled proliferation and differentiation to promote definitive haematopoiesis.
