Human isocitrate dehydrogenase 1 (IDH1) is an enzyme that is found in humans that plays a critical role in aerobic metabolism. As a part of the citric acid cycle, IDH1 becomes responsible for catalyzing the oxidative decarboxylation of isocitrate to form α-ketoglutarate (αKG), with nicotinamide adenine dinucleotide phosphate (NADP+) as a cofactor.
