CONTEXT: Ryanodine receptors (RyRs) are large intracellular ligand-gated calcium release ion channels. Mutations in human RyR1 in combination with a volatile anesthetic or muscle relaxant are known to cause leaky RyRs resulting in malignant hyperthermia (MH).
