BACKGROUND: Mutations in GBA1, which encodes the lysosome enzyme β-glucocerebrosidase (also referred to as acid β-glucosidase or GCase), are the most common genetic risk factor for Parkinson's disease (PD) and dementia with Lewy bodies (DLB).
