PURPOSE OF REVIEW: Clonal hematopoiesis of indeterminate potential (CHIP) is a novel cardiovascular risk factor that develops as aging hematopoietic stem cells (HSCs) acquire somatic mutations which confer a clonal survival advantage in their progeny.
