CcoA belongs to the widely distributed bacterial copper (Cu) importer subfamily CalT (CcoA-like Transporters) of the Major Facilitator Superfamily (MFS) and provides cytoplasmic Cu needed for cbb3-type cytochrome c oxidase (cbb3-Cox) biogenesis.
