Retinitis pigmentosa (RP) is an incurable retinal degenerative disease with an unknown mechanism of disease progression. Mer tyrosine kinase (MERTK), which encodes a receptor of the Tyro3/Axl/Mer family of tyrosine kinases, is one of the causal genes of RP.
