INTRODUCTION: Multiple system atrophy (MSA) is a rare, sporadic, and progressive neurodegenerative disease which is characterized neuropathologically by alpha-synuclein aggregates in oligodendroglia, and clinically by parkinsonism, ataxia, and autonomic dysfunction.
