BACKGROUND: Pulmonary vascular endothelium is the main metabolic site for Angiotensin I-Converting Enzyme (ACE)-mediated degradation of several biologically-active peptides (angiotensin I, bradykinin, hemo-regulatory peptide Ac-SDKP).
