In higher plants, the tetrapyrrole biosynthesis pathway starts from the reaction catalyzed by the rate-limiting enzyme, glutamyl-tRNAGlu reductase (GTR). In Arabidopsis thaliana, GTR is controlled by post-transcriptional regulators such as GTR binding protein (GBP), which stimulates AtGTR activity.
