Essentials Heparin-binding site (HBS) variants of antithrombin (AT) are associated with thrombosis risk. HSB variants have, in general, normal progressive inhibitory activity but reduced heparin affinity. Thrombosis in HSB carriers has been primarily attributed to the loss of heparin cofactor activity.
