Oxygen homeostasis in normal and tumor cells is mediated by hypoxia-inducible factors (HIFs), which are active as heterodimer complexes, such as HIF-2α-aryl hydrocarbon receptor nuclear translocator (ARNT) and HIF-1α-ARNT.
