HLA-DR and -DQ restriction fragment length polymorphisms (RFLPs) were examined in Melanesian leprosy patients and controls from New Caledonia. This permitted DNA subtyping of DQw1, a broad serological specificity previously implicated in predisposition to lepromatous leprosy.
