BACKGROUND: Gene polymorphisms impact greatly on a person's susceptibility to pulmonary tuberculosis (PTB). Macrophage receptor with collagenous structure (MARCO) and CD36 are two scavenger receptors (SRs) that can recognize Mycobacterium tuberculosis (Mtb) and play a key role in tuberculosis infection.
