WHAT IS KNOWN AND OBJECTIVE: A common polymorphism (C1858T) in the gene that encodes the protein tyrosine phosphatase non-receptor type 22 (PTPN22) is associated with altered T-cell responses and increased susceptibility to rheumatoid arthritis (RA) and other autoimmune diseases.
