The geographical distribution of single nucleotide polymorphism (SNP) in the mitochondrial genome of the human malaria parasite Plasmodium falciparum was investigated. We identified 88 SNPs in 516 isolates from seven parasite populations in Africa, Southeast Asia and Oceania.
