The isocitrate dehydrogenase 1 (IDH1) mutation occurs in high frequency in glioma and secondary glioblastoma (GBM). Mutated IDH1 produces the oncometabolite 2-hydroxyglutarate rather than α-ketoglutarate or isocitrate.
