RATIONALE: Pulmonary arterial hypertension (PAH) is a lethal, female-predominant, vascular disease. Pathologic changes in PA smooth muscle cells (PASMC) include excessive proliferation, apoptosis-resistance, and mitochondrial fragmentation.
