PURPOSE: Lysyl oxidase (LOX) stabilizes the extracellular matrix (ECM) by cross-linking collagen and elastin molecules. In proliferative diabetic retinopathy (PDR), there is ECM remodeling with neovascularization and basement membrane changes.
