Cystathionine γ-synthase (CGS) catalyzes the condensation of O-succinyl-L-homoserine (L-OSHS) and L-cysteine (L-Cys), to produce L-cystathionine (L-Cth) and succinate, in the first step of the bacterial transsulfuration pathway.
