Inducible nitric-oxide synthase (iNOS), a major mediator of inflammation, plays an important role in obesity-induced insulin resistance. Inhibition of iNOS by gene disruption or pharmacological inhibitors reverses or ameliorates obesity-induced insulin resistance in skeletal muscle and liver in mice.
