Paragangliomas (PGLs) have widely different metastastic potentials. Two different types of PGLs can be defined by expression profiling. Cluster 1 PGLs exhibit VHL and/or succinate dehydrogenase (SDH) mutations and a pseudohypoxic phenotype.
