Tubulin-folding cofactor D is necessary for the assembly of tubulin heterodimers and, possibly, plays additional roles in the cell. The effects of cofactor D, microtubules, and/or tubulin dimers on the mitosis initiation were studied in Schizosaccharomyces pombe.
